Championship
Show 2008
The
Irish Pointer Club’s Ch. Show was held on May 4th at
Ballykealy Manor Hotel, Co Carlow. Mrs Pamela Tibbs (Raigmore)
travelled from Scotland to judged the show and had an excellent
entry with a good number of exhibitors from the UK and Northern
Ireland and support from the field trial members at home.
Judge's
Critique
It
was a pleasure to judge this really friendly show at the beautiful
venue of Ballykealy Manor Hotel. Nor could the weather have
been any more perfect. I would like to thank the show secretary,
Sue Brophy for all her help in making my trip such an enjoyable
one and also my hardworking steward, Martin Falsey for keeping
me right with the new regulations. Although the variance in
type between the dogs from show lines and field trial lines
was for the most part quite evident it was great to see the
field trial dogs supporting the classes so well.
Puppy
Dog (4, 0 absent)
1. Edmondson
and Robertshaw’s Crookrise Floyd – lovely youngster
of 11 months. Still a bit raw but with a lovely neck and shoulders
and good depth for his age. Good head and expression. Moved
well. One who I am sure will do well with maturity. Best Puppy
in Show.
2. Eldridge’s Bradgate Now or Never – another
good youngster with a beautiful head. Nice overall body shape
and excellent tailset and tail. Lovely kind eye. Very close
up to 1.
Junior
Dog (4, 0 absent)
1. Coyle’s
Fernhill Pride of Koram – Nice overall type. Well built
Good feet. Moved OK
2. Kirwan’s Aughnaclappa Trail Blazer – Bit plainer
in head than one. Good deep chest and well muscled. Moved
steadily.
Intermediate
Dog (2, 1 absent)
1. Dooley
and Brophy’s Solid Gold Uranos (AUS) – Although
stood alone in this class he is a beautiful dog that really
caught my eye. Lovely overall balance with an excellent head.
Well constructed dog with grand bend of stifle who really
moved round the ring driving from his short hocks. Shown in
lovely condition. One I considered for higher honours.
Open Dog
(8, 0 absent)
1. Westaway’s
Penwest Palamedes – Lovely headed b/w dog with great
neck and shoulders. Lovely front and bone. Good bend of stifle
Moved well using his tail. Reserve GS Dog
2. Brophy’s Saragresi Classic Point (HUN) – another
good dog who challenged the winner hard. Beautiful head and
expression with lovely neat ears. Well bodied. Moved well.
Champion
Dog (1, 0 absent)
1. Edmondson
and Robertshaw’s GB Sh Ch Crookrise Rhum - a dog I have
seen from the ringside but one who I personally think needs
to be gone over to be appreciated. He is a lovely stylish
dog who epitomises strength but grace at the same time. He
has a lot of work in his head. Nice neck and great depth.
Good sloping pasterns and feet. Shown in good hard condition.
Powered round the ring to win this class and take the GS Dog
and B.I.S.
Veteran
Dog (1, 1 absent)
Field
Trial Dog (5, 0 absent)
1. Dalton’s

1. Brady’s Rossenarra legally Blonde – Raw youngster.
Good overall shape with well sprung rib. Good head. Neat tail.
Moved well behind but a shade wide in front.
2. Josey’s Parkpoint Days of Wine and Roses –
Another of nice overall shape and head. Needs more time to
mature and get condition.
Junior
Bitch (3, 1 absent)
1. Brophy’s
Rossenarra Love Me Do – Beautiful bitch who has a lovely
outline. Stunning head and expression. Good front with correct
sloping pasterns. Great depth for one so young and well sprung
rib. Neat tail. Moved well. Although only a youngster her
extra sparkle in the challenge gave her the GS Bitch. One
who should have a bright future.
2. Fallon’s Fernhill Beauty – youngster who would
carry more weight to advantage and in general needs time to
mature.
Intermediate
Bitch (3, 1 absent)
1. Murphy’s
Ikerrin Heather – strongly made bitch who moved well.
Nice head. Good depth and feet.

Judge’s Critique
It was a great honour to be invited to judge in Ireland at
this well organised show in the lovely surroundings of Ballykealy
Manor Hotel.
Firstly I wish to express my thanks to the secretery Mrs Susan
Brophy for the warm hospitality and for my excellent steward
Martin Falsey who was a great help for me all day. I was thrilled
at the excellent entry, it was really complimentary ! Special
thanks for the field trial people who showed their dogs to
me.
Surprising was how great a difference there was between the
show and working type in Ireland, in Europe they aren’t
so far from each other.
I was looking for a dished face, all over balance, thoroughbred
looking and first of all the true sound pointer movement that
never can be hackney action.
Puppy dog (2, 1abs)

head and neck, very nice topline. Correct angulations before
and behind too, movement could be better. Needs more time.
