IRISH POINTER CLUB
50th Anniversary
BREED CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW
3rd May 2015
Judge’s
Critique
It was disappointing for the Club
and the appointed judge, Mr Wayne Cavanaugh (USA),
that he was unable to travel, as he had drawn an
excellent entry, for this anniversary show. I was
pleased to be able to step in at the last minute
to judge. Many thanks to the Pointer exhibitors
for accepting my placings in such a sporting
manner. The relaxed friendly atmosphere, super
location and excellent organization by Susan
Brophy made for a most enjoyable day, and thanks
to my steward Martin Falsey
Puppy Dog (3)
1st Stilgoe's Teisgol Mind over Mayhem, 7 months,
elegant B/W, good angulation front and rear, good
topline, sound on the move. Would prefer a finer
tail. Best Puppy.
2nd Robertson & O'Brien's Hookwood Peacemaker,
10 month old B/W, rangy puppy, good head and depth
of ribcage, lost out to 1 on movement, rear
angulation and tail carriage.
3rd Walsh's Bucko of Bradys Lea
Junior Dog (3,2 abs)
1st Stilgoe's Teisgol the Philosopher, upstanding
liver / white with good head, expression and stop.
Good depth of ribcage, could have a stronger
topline and better rear assembly, carried tail
high on the move.
Intermediate Dog (6, 2 abs)
1st Stilgoe's Teisgol I am the One and Only JW,
super balanced b/w with pleasing head, good
muzzle, stop and thin leathers. Clean neck, well
sprung ribcage, with forechest, good front
angulation, good first and second thighs, and
short hocks. Pleased to award him Green Star Dog
and Res BIS, a very close decision.
2nd Tibbs'’ Raigmore Astronomer Royal, well made
O/W with good front assembly and ribcage. Good
stop but rather strong in the skull, unfortunately
not very happy on the day with tail down.
3rd Dooley's Raigmore Sirocco,
Open Dog (13 )
1st Theobald, Phillips & Westaway's Penwest
Pallaton JW, compact balanced B/W with typical
head, good flews and stop. Good forechest and
ribcage well back, very nice short tail. Moved
with reach and drive, handled to advantage.
Reserve Green Star Dog
2nd Dodds' Raigmore Light up the Sky for Lyncarda,
O/W with pleasing head and expression, good
ribcage and forechest, nice sloping pasterns and
short tail. Lacked drive on the move today.
3rd Tibbs' Raigmore Dusk Till Dawn JW,
Champion Dog (1, abs)
Veteran Dog (1, abs)
Field Trial Dog (7)
1st Crotty's Brackbawn Falling Star, well handled
B/W, with kind eye and expression, well balanced
overall. Good forehand, bone and topline which he
held on the move, nice tail, moved very soundly.
2nd Murphy’s Dante Boy, 7 year old B/W, nice type
with good movement. Good front angulation, front
and ribcage.
3rd Dalton's Lagopus Jester ,
Puppy Bitch (1, abs)
Junior Bitch (1 )
1st Brown's Teisgol Lady of Beauty, elegant liver/
white with balanced neat head, clean neck and good
depth of ribcage with forechest.
Intermediate Bitch (3, 1 abs)
1st MacManus' Crookrise Diva by Luneville,
upstanding B/W with long reach of neck and
pleasing head, neat well set ears. Rather steep in
the upper arm.
2nd Dodds' Raigmore Starshine for Lyncarda,
compact O/W with correct tail set. Would prefer
better angulation front and rear, and more
refinement.
Open Bitch (8,1 abs)
1st Tibbs' Somerled Classic Romance at Raigmore,
balanced O/W of lovely breed type, good ribcage
well back, with depth and forechest. Short
coupled, correct tail set, good front, lay back of
shoulder and sloping pasterns, Excellent reach,
drive and flowing movement, holding her topline. A
worthy Green Star Bitch and BIS winner.
2nd Stilgoe's Teisgol Irinara JW, B/W close up to
1, similar qualities. A very nice bitch with
flowing lines, Reserve Green Star winner.
3rd Edmondson & Robertshaw's Calderside Amuse

Veteran Bitch ( 1)
MacManus' Crookrise Moondance at Luneville, 9 year
old elegant O/W with a sweet head and expression,
moved well

elegant B/W, well balanced, good rear angulation,
and correct accurate movement fore and aft.

Judge’s Critique
It is always an honour to be invited to
judge a club championship show, few shows
however enjoy such great location for their
annual event. The warm welcome from the staff at
the Ballykealy Manor Hotel, the lovely big ring
and the picture postcard view make this venue
very special. Thank you to Sue Brophy for the
great directions to Ballon and having everything
so well organised, to Martin Falsey for being
the perfect steward, to all the exhibitors for
accepting my decisions so graciously and to
everyone who made me so welcome. The weather was
unkind in patches but Gundog folk can cope with
that, the paperwork may have suffered a little
but most of it seems to have survived.

Show 2008
The Irish Pointer Club’s Ch. Show was
held on May 4th at Ballykealy Manor Hotel, Co
Carlow. Mrs Pamela Tibbs (Raigmore) travelled
from Scotland to judged the show and had an
excellent entry with a good number of exhibitors
from the UK and Northern Ireland and support
from the field trial members at home.
Judge's Critique
It was a pleasure to judge this really
friendly show at the beautiful venue of
Ballykealy Manor Hotel. Nor could the weather
have been any more perfect. I would like to
thank the show secretary, Sue Brophy for all her
help in making my trip such an enjoyable one and
also my hardworking steward, Martin Falsey for
keeping me right with the new regulations.
Although the variance in type between the dogs
from show lines and field trial lines was for
the most part quite evident it was great to see
the field trial dogs supporting the classes so
well.

Dog (4, 0 absent)
1.
Edmondson and Robertshaw’s Crookrise Floyd –
lovely youngster of 11 months. Still a bit raw
but with a lovely neck and shoulders and good
depth for his age. Good head and expression.
Moved well. One who I am sure will do well with
maturity. Best Puppy in Show.
2. Eldridge’s Bradgate Now or Never – another
good youngster with a beautiful head. Nice
overall body shape and excellent tailset and
tail. Lovely kind eye. Very close up to 1.
Junior

1.
Coyle’s Fernhill Pride of Koram – Nice overall
type. Well built Good feet. Moved OK
2. Kirwan’s Aughnaclappa Trail Blazer – Bit
plainer in head than one. Good deep chest and
well muscled. Moved steadily.
Intermediate
Dog (2, 1 absent)
1.
Dooley and Brophy’s Solid Gold Uranos (AUS) –
Although stood alone in this class he is a
beautiful dog that really caught my eye. Lovely
overall balance with an excellent head. Well
constructed dog with grand bend of stifle who
really moved round the ring driving from his
short hocks. Shown in lovely condition. One I
considered for higher honours.

Rhum - a dog I have seen from the ringside but
one who I personally think needs to be gone over
to be appreciated. He is a lovely stylish dog
who epitomises strength but grace at the same
time. He has a lot of work in his head. Nice
neck and great depth. Good sloping pasterns and
feet. Shown in good hard condition. Powered

Judge’s Critique
It was a great honour to be invited to judge in
Ireland at this well organised show in the lovely
surroundings of Ballykealy Manor Hotel.
Firstly I wish to express my thanks to the
secretery Mrs Susan Brophy for the warm
hospitality and for my excellent steward Martin
Falsey who was a great help for me all day. I was
thrilled at the excellent entry, it was really
complimentary ! Special thanks for the field trial
people who showed their dogs to me.
Surprising was how great a difference there was
between the show and working type in Ireland, in
Europe they aren’t so far from each other.
I was looking for a dished face, all over balance,
thoroughbred looking and first of all the true
sound pointer movement that never can be hackney
action.
Puppy dog (2, 1abs)

good head and neck, very nice topline. Correct
angulations before and behind too, movement could
be better. Needs more time.

nice type, elegant junior, good type of head and
